Vintage Dreadnaught 3pc Wrench Set
$20.00
Vintage Canadian-made wrenches, sizes 3/8″, 7/16″; 1/2″, 9/16″; 11/16″ , 19/32″. The 1/2″, 9/16″ wrench has a slight bend (see third photo).
The word ‘Dreadnaught’ is embossed on one side of each wrench. Dreadnaught was a brand of the Gray Tool Co., founded in Toronto in 1912 by Alex Gray as the Gray Ball Bearing Co. Ltd.
‘Molybedenum’ is embossed on the reverse side. Molybdenum was known to increase the hardness of steel alloys. The use of it in tool steels came to the fore in the 1930’s, when the proper heat ranges for forging and heat-treating this alloy were determined. These wrenches date from this period.
